The TRC Database is an online tool that offers detailed information about truth and reconciliation proceedings across the world.
The overview of some significant truth commissions that follows is intended to provide a cursory introduction, a quick reference, and a teaching tool. The overview is not exhaustive. It should not be regarded as a ‘stand alone’ publication, drawing as it does on a number of published works that are acknowledged in the select bibliographies that follow. These works need to be consulted in order to better understand the identity, possibilities and limitations of the commissions included. The database allows you to either compare data from different countries or to select specific topics on Truth Commission proceedings and compare those per country.
